Kellie Pickler On Skin Care, Excessive Heels, And Being A Tomboy
Nation songstress Kellie Pickler is the definition of a candy, Southern woman, oozing lovable charm from the instant you tape meet her. Pickler shot to stardom after competing in the fifth season of American Idol at age 19 in 2005 (she completed in sixth place), and shortly thereafter launched her debut album Small City Lady, which included her first hit, “Red Excessive Heels.” Upon assembly her, the first thing Pickler does is go in for a big hug, showing off her match frame in a tank prime, jeans and heels. She notes that she doesn’t usually put on heels — although it’s a typical false impression due to her hit tune — and would somewhat grasp out together with her husband doing yard work and getting down and dirty.
Pickler recently launched her newest album, one hundred Proof, and is on tour across the country selling it. She has teamed up with Tone Fruit Peel physique wash for his or her Tone Flip it Up! sequence where she’ll be blogging all through her tour, doing live Fb chats and giving followers the chance to take part in giveaways in addition to a grand prize of an all-expenses paid journey to Nashville to satisfy Pickler. Beneath, Pickler fills us in on the whole lot from her skin care routine to her favourite products to use when she does her own stage makeup (clearly our minds have been blown by this).
Magnificence Excessive: Since you’re consistently performing, how do you keep your skin in tip-high form
Kelly Pickler: Have you ever smelled this [Tone physique wash] It’s wonderful. I really like the odor.
BH: Are you drawn to fruity scents
KP: Not always. But this … I assume perhaps it’s the citrus. There’s kiwi in it. It’s not heavy and it’s actually hydrating. And I exploit it to shave, too. It’s a two-in-one! It’s actually great to your pores and skin.Very hydrating. Particularly traveling quite a bit and flying and what not. Lots of water too. Water is the neatest thing you can do in your body. So yeah, water. And I love my Clarisonic.
BH: You talked about traveling, and you’re clearly at all times hurrying to the following city. Do you may have any must-haves on the road
KP: Effectively, normally I’ve my dogs with me. So I guess my fundamental accessory is my two small canines. They come out on the highway. They didn’t come today, however they usually are with me at all times. I love when I’m just touring or I’m not working, if I’m not in stage makeup, I’ve a ponytail, a baseball hat — my favorite Carolina hat — and my UNC hat. Denims. Boots. Like, I’m so much more of a tomboy. It’s funny because folks generally … nicely, I believe due to my first music, “Red High Heels,” folks assume that’s the only thing I put on. It’s like one music. I just wore these footwear that one time — for that one break-up! I don’t wear them everyday. However yeah, I’m very, very a lot a tomboy. I like yard work. I like mowing. I like pulling weeds.
BH: It’s like a stress reliever.
KP: It really is. I suppose I’m telling you that because my husband and i are in like a landscaping course of proper now — planting vines and flowers and bushes and bushes. A lot. But something that enables me to be outdoors, I really like. Kayaking, canoeing, hiking, riding bikes. Strolling the canine. Now we have an even bigger canine — part pit, half lab. So, we take her for walks. I don’t run. Until I’m attempting to get to a sale!
BH: You have an ideal signature blonde hair shade. How do you maintain it
KP: I am going to the salon in Nashville. It’s referred to as Contemporary. Bryan does my colour.
BH: Do you utilize any special products
KP: Kevin Murphy has a very, actually great hair mask. There are times where my hair just appears like a crispy French fry, and that i sleep with it on. You set that on and also you don’t should do anything — you should use any sort of conditioner. Just put that on and sleep with it on and that basically helps. That mask is simply really thick, so it’s very hydrating to your hair. Not washing your hair every single day helps too … If you’re gonna be residence for the weekend and you’re not going wherever and you don’t need to look good … you can wash every part else, just don’t wash your hair. Give your hair a break, as a result of every time you wash it, you strip out the pure oils so it by no means makes it right down to the tip and the ends break off — particularly with colour.
BH: After the past few years of being on stage and having your make-up and hair performed, have you realized any nice ideas
KP: I really do my very own. I imply, immediately I didn’t. Debbie did my makeup in the present day. But we had Television earlier. I at all times have her when I’ve stuff tangled weave remedy like this or award exhibits. You don’t need to deal with it — you don’t need to fret about it, you will have enough to fret about. So that basically takes a weight off your shoulders … But like on tour or something like that … I just do my very own.
BH: Have you ever always been fascinated by makeup
KP: I’m more of like a skin person than I am as far as makeup. If we had been just going to go get our nails executed right now, I would not be wearing something. However I do love mascara.
BH: I must ask — are those your real lashes [Ed note: They had been miles lengthy!]
KP: No! They’re simply little individuals that you can get at the drug store actually cheap.
BH: I was going to say, if those are pure I would be extremely jealous.
KP: Those strips are so uncomfortable and they always come unglued and they just look heavy, you know. Or gaudy. However the individual ones … you may make them full or just put just a few. Simply use tweezers.
BH: So what would you say is a traditional stage makeup look for you
KP: As far as my makeup goes I like MAC. They’ve actually great stage make-up. They have a mineral pressed powder now for like everyday wear. However I exploit that for stage too. I don’t like using liquid. I do generally, I’ll change it up. I like Naked Minerals. I feel they’ve nice, just recent. However mostly MAC. I love some of Bobbi Brown eyeshadows and lip … However I use a bit bit of every thing. Kat Von D has nice eyeshadows, too. However I imply you simply have to find what works for you because everybody’s skin is different.
BH: Just one final question. Whose type do you really admire
KP: You already know who I believe has a natural, gorgeous look Jennifer Aniston. She has great hair and she could make a pair of flip-flops and reduce-off shorts appear to be a million bucks. But even her dressing up — I imply she’s so classy-wanting. She’s so stunning, I feel. I’d most likely say her. And I like her makeup — it’s so contemporary. You may glam it up for the carpet or for an occasion — I really like her entire look. I think she’s gorgeous.
